Subject	Is a spoiler necessary?

Message	I remember reading in the enthusiast's companion that the designers originally didn't want a spoiler, but that they had to add it due to lift issues at high speeds. My current spoiler is rotting out and i'm wondering whether i should just delete it or get a fiberglass replacement. I prefer the look without the spoiler, but I do drive my Z at speeds over 250 kph from time to time and am not interested in testing it's flight dynamics :). If anyone has a copy of the enthusiasts companion that would be helpful as well (all the links i found on google are now dead). Thanks.
